DiSC as a personality development tool

What is Everything DiSC?

Everything DiSC is a personal development learning experience that measures an individual’s preferences and tendencies based on the DiSC model. But, what is the DiSC model?

The DiSC Model is a simple yet powerful model that describes four basic behavioural styles: D, i, S, and C, and serves as the foundation for each distinct Everything DiSC application.

D: Dominance

i: Influence

S: Steadiness

C: Conscientiousness

Everyone is a blend of all four DiSC styles—usually one, two, or even three styles stand out. Unlike many personality tests, there is no perfect result or DiSC style. Each person has a unique behavioural profile with different styles and priorities—no one style better or worse than the next. We believe that these differences in style can be extremely valuable. Once you assess these differences and harness their value, better workplace communication AND healthier organisations become possible.

Although DiSC describes four styles, the model is, at its core, two-dimensional. These two dimensions reflect fundamental aspects of human nature and can be viewed as independent constructs.

  1. Everything DiSC Vertical Dimension- The vertical dimension is best described as level of activity, ranging from active to thoughtful. People with DiSC styles at the top of the circle tend to be fast-paced and are often described as assertive, dynamic, and bold.

  2. Everything DiSC Horizontal Dimension- The horizontal dimension runs from questioning to accepting. People with DiSC styles that fall toward the left side of the circle are naturally more skeptical in nature and are often described as logic-focused, objective, and challenging.

Everything DiSC as a successful tool-

Sumo Sushi & Bento a japanese restaurant which initially started in the UAE, when the owners began to plan their next steps which ultimately led them to expand their business into a global franchise. They realised that in order to grow beyond Dubai, it was necessary to

invest in the people who would lead the business. Their foresight on developing strong leaders provided a huge payoff for the company.

The company connected with Everything DiSC who guided them through two programmes:

Everything DiSC Work of Leaders and Everything DiSC 363 for Leaders.

The two programmes combine leadership best practices with the DiSC personality model, which comprises four basic styles:

Dominance (D), Influence (i), Steadiness(S), and Conscientiousness (C).

The DiSC framework helps leaders build self-awareness and strengthen leadership presence. With Everything DiSC, the managers have learned to embrace personal strengths and challenges and see the value of their peers and direct reports. They now use the language of DiSC® to communicate, collaborate, and support each other’s goals.

Saline Lectronics, Inc. (Lectronics) is an electronics contract manufacturer serving the commercial, medical, and aerospace industries. Due to the reactive, fast-paced nature of contract manufacturing, tensions within these environments run high. Lectronics needed the right tools for their people that would build strength throughout the newly formed leadership team. Recently, Lectronics utilised Everything DiSC Productive Conflict to transform their organisation’s culture, define who they are in a rapidly changing environment, and build confidence in young leaders.

The Everything DiSC assessment enables users to practise introspection and understand their working and communication styles, strengths and weaknesses, and fundamental values. Conversely, it gives insight to others’ communication styles and how to better approach disagreements, challenges, or difficult feedback depending on which DiSC type(s) they are interacting with. This framework empowers the individual and unifies the team.

The DiSC experience has created a shift in the language and work styles used by Lectronics management on a daily basis. “What used to be a ‘Go-Do-Push’ culture turned into a ‘Pause-Reflect Choose’ culture,” says the Director of Marketing.

Diversity Solutions understands that every individual is different from another, no individual is alike, hence their behavioural pattern too would not be alike. We at ‘Diversity Solutions’ understand the psychology of an individual using Everything DiSC and then work around a tailor made module that fits the requirement for the individual. Our focus is not on changing an individual however it is to support the individual in maintaining a balance of behavioural types at the workplace to achieve a win win situation for the individual and the organisation.

Preview to the tailor made modules for our clients:

Case 1: Individuals high on Steadiness and Conscientiousness - i.e. Individuals who are process driven and meticulous about every minute detail in the process and are looked up by all for accuracy however these individuals have not grown within the organisation.

Solution: Looking at the DiSC results, it was identified that Dominance and Influence was not a strong parameter for these individuals. A custom made program was put together for these individuals re-attriting their strengths and supporting them to move up the curve with Dominance and Influence so that they can be process driven but be assertive and groom others. Teach others on how to be result driven in all how to be a Leader rather than just a Doer.

Case 2: Individuals high on Dominance and Influence - i.e. Individuals who are result oriented and high on energy however these groups of individuals are very low on Steadiness and Conscientiousness i.e. low on people relationship.

Solution: Looking at the DiSC scores on Steadiness and Conscientiousness a custom made program on Teamwork and Managing Stakeholders was introduced. The point that had to be driven to these sets of individuals was that an organisation has its different parts of the body and no team is less important than the other.

Our expertise in this space would allow you personally and the organisation as a whole to achieve your goals. As Robert Fulghum say “ I fear the boredom that comes with not learning and not taking chances”.

Please allow us 20 minutes of your time to get on a call to discuss strategies that would work specifically for your organisation.
